Hello
Hi! My name is Kelli Kluba, and I’m a longtime South Lyon resident and mom of three. After spending many years as a stay-at-home parent and working with children in a variety of settings, I’m exploring the next chapter — creating a child-led, play-based program for young children in our community.
I have a background in child development and children & family services, as well as experience working in before- and after-school programs, including serving as an on-site director. During my practicum at the University of Michigan–Dearborn Early Childhood Education Center, I was introduced to the Reggio Emilia approach, which deeply influenced how I view children and learning.
Over the years, I’ve continued learning about play theory, nature-based learning, loose parts, and child-led exploration. These ideas have led me to dream of creating a program that gets back to the basics — giving children the time, space, and materials to explore, create, and lead their own learning.
I’m currently gathering feedback to see if there is interest in a play-based, child-led program where children can explore open-ended materials (loose parts) in a calm, supportive environment.
My Dream
I hope that each family embraces P.L.A.Y. into their life every day. It’s something that doesn’t need to take a lot of time and can cost almost nothing if you get creative. There are a multitude of unique ways to incorporate P.L.A.Y. into your day—here are a couple of ways to get started!
Take a minute and close your eyes. Imagine your very own childhood and think of a time that you remember feeling pure joy. What were you doing? Where were you? Who were you with? When I do this, I picture a thought bubble appearing above my head that says, “I wish this moment would never end.” Another way to get inspired is by simply asking your kiddos. What better way to get the whole family on board than involving them in the entire process!
By attending a P.L.A.Y. session, you’ll get to witness firsthand the countless benefits your child will experience. At first, you may think, “What could my child possibly be learning?” A P.L.A.Y. session may not look like an Instagram-worthy picture, but that’s exactly the point. It will look messy and unfiltered. Your child will have a plethora of loose parts to explore—recyclables, items found in nature, and manufactured everyday objects.
Unlike other programs you may have signed up for, here at Simplicity P.L.A.Y. Studio, your child is the true leader. I don't plan lessons based on monthly themes or holidays; instead, I follow the children’s interests and desires. Creating this fully child-led environment is exactly where I need to be, and deep down, it has always been a part of my core philosophy. I’m so excited for you to join me on this journey!
